My shopping list – some favorite things (and where I get them…)
What to buy
Bath/Shower Accessory: (NYR) NYR Organic has a natural fibre Massage Mitt that is the best body exfoliator I have ever used. Make sure to rinse well and hang dry, and allow to dry in the sun on occasion.
Bath Soap: (VC) Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps All-One Hemp Pure-Castile Soap – Almond or Peppermint (I wait until it goes on sale and LOAD UP!)
Burn Relief (kitchen/sun): (NYR) The restorative organic essential oils in our Wild Rose Beauty Balm! A little dab on a kitchen burn (after a run of cold water) will provide instant relief within 90 seconds; gently massage over mild sunburn as needed to soothe and calm your skin.
Cat Food (Dave’s): Your local pet shop or chewy.com or petflow.com (one of the absolute healthiest cat food companies according to hours of online research ;>) My kitties love to eat and they’re healthy – what more can you ask?)
Dental Floss: (VC) Dr Tungs Smart Floss® — 30 Yards
Dishwasher Rinse Aid: (VC) Seventh Generation Rinse Aid Free and Clear — 8 fl oz
Dishwasher Detergent (Automatic): (VC) Seventh Generation Natural Dishwasher Detergent Packs Free & Clear — 45 Packs
Dishwashing Detergent (Hand): (AMA or TM) Better Life Dish Soap
Facial Care: (NYR) I’ve been using the Frankincense line for over 8 years now – rejuvenating maintenance for Mature skin (age 40+). For super-sensitive skin, the Starflower line is soothing and hydrating; I recommend our Rose line for normal and sensitive skin (think redness = rose); and our Palmarosa line for oily/combination skin.
My 3-Minute “Commercial Break” Skincare Regime:
MORNING: I use a cream cleanser followed by a splash of Orange Flower Water (ummmmmm…) Then a couple drops of Frankincense Serum or Frankincense Intense Concentrate, a pea-sized amount of Frankincense Hydrating Cream or Frankincense Intense, and finish off with Orange Flower Facial Oil (2 drops for daytime glow!) And of course, the Wild Rose Beauty Balm is my stuck on a desert island remedy – if I don’t have the time or energy for my 3-minute regime, I’ll just smooth a dab on my face in the AM and run out the door.
EVENING: Same as morning, but I substitute Beauty Sleep Concentrate for the Facial Oil. Sweet Dreams!
Facial Tissue: (VC) Green Forest White Facial Tissue
Hair Treatment: (NYR) I’ll use NYR Organic Rosemary and Cedarwood Hair Treatment for a deep conditioning 1-3x/month. When I was in Hawaii and exposed to chlorine and saltwater on a daily basis, I’d massage it into my hair and scalp and leave it on overnight. The scent makes me think of the Ten Thousand Waves Spa outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico…
Jet Lag Remedies – See Travel Essentials.
Laundry Soap: (VC or AMA; sometimes CST) I’ve tried and used all of these – they clean well, have no fragrance, and don’t make me itchy! Eco Nuts Organic Laundry Soap (Soap Nuts), Planet Ultra Liquid Laundry Detergent, Seventh Generation Natural Liquid Laundry Detergent Free & Clear, GreenShield Organic Free and Clear Laundry Detergent
Paper Napkins: (VC or AMA) Seventh Generation 100% Recycled Napkins Unbleached 1-ply — 500 Sheets (for picnics, lunch boxes, parties… otherwise, I try to stick to organic cotton fabric)
Shampoo and Conditioner: (NYR or VC) I love the NYR Organic Rose Shampoo and Seaweed Shampoo – I stock up on them when they go on sale. If I run out, I’ll order Acure Shampoos and Conditioners off the Vitacost site. If you’re like me and love marzipan, try the Acure Organics Moroccan Argan Oil and Stem Cell products.
Soap – See Bath Soap.
Sunscreen: (VC) Devita Solar Protective Moisturizer SPF 30+ — 2.5 fl oz (best price for a nontoxic, non-Nano, effective sunscreen that leaves no white sheen)
Tall Kitchen Trash Bags: (AMA) Green Earth Compostable Biodegradable Food Waste Kitchen Trash Bags, 50-Count, 13 Gallon, Superior Strength
Toilet Paper: (VC or AMA) Seventh Generation 100% Recycled Bathroom Tissue — 12 Rolls
Toothpaste: (TM) Dr. Bronner’s Organic Peppermint Toothpaste
Travel Essentials: (NYR) Whenever I leave on an overnight trip, whether I’m crossing time zones or not, I bring my NYR Organic Beauty Sleep Body Butter along, and smooth it all over my arms and shoulders after a hot shower right before lights out. The scent of the aroma-therapeutic blend of essential oils is as calming as falling asleep to ocean waves. For long plane trips, I also bring my Remedies to Roll in my purse: Relaxation when I get on the plane, Night Time when it’s time for bed, Energy when I “wake up”, Travel when I feel the jet lag hitting, and Study when I’m preparing for a meeting.
Water Filtration: Berkey all the way! It’s only my hubby and I plus the occasional guest, so the Travel Berkey does the trick for us. (Do you have a home water filtration system you LOVE? Please share!)
